Does anyone other than LMT make a monolithic Rail
I really like the look of one solid rail but for $1500 I can put up with a little gap

VLTOR offers their VIS monolthic rail in carbine, mid, and rifle lengths. It uses standard barrels instead of the proprietary barrels.

MGI's CQB II upper is a monolithic carbine rail system with the most user friendly barrel change system on the market. You can also add an extension (not truly monolithic though) to use a rifle length gas system. The CQB II also uses standard barrels.

Finally there are several rail systems such as the Troy, Midwest, Sampson, DD Lite, and DD Omega which give the monolithic look but are not truly monolithic.

The VIS is very nice as I have one.

There is also another option if you want to go with a MK12 MOD0 option which is a standard upper receiver, PRI forearm, and either the ARMS swan sleeve or the PRI swan sleeve.  That will also give you a monolithic rail but the rail will be a little bit higher.

There are lots of options out there as the previous poster said too.  Forearms that look like a monolithic rail.

Take a look at the DD lite rail; it's continuous on top and you can get an upper plus the rail for under $900.00. Plus, DD is the best in the biz when it comes to rails. If I had my rifle handy, i'd throw up a picture of it.

...and they will save you some money.

I was in the same dilemma as you.  I wanted a MRP but thought they were too expensive

I decided to buy a Vltor Vis with a Noveske barrel and Vltor low profile gas block , flash hider , rail covers etc

By the time I added this all up I was into it for just under $1100 .  So really the $1300 for a MRP is not that much more

I ended up with the MRP and I couldn't be happier .

BTW the VIS is a continous rail but its actually made from two parts  ( therefore technically its not monolithic )  that are salt brazed together . If you get a chance to hold a MRP you can be in awe with all the machine work that goes into it

I don't see any reason to pay more than what a MI HG costs unless you just want to say I've got the most costly rail on my AR.  Save the money and buy ammo.

And the MRP comes with a torque wrench!

Both are nice units I have handled, shot, and sold both. As trg42 states you will end up with about the same amount of coin in a Properly done VIS as an MRP. I have $1194 my cost in my VIS build.

Neither are a cheap option

I have an MRP, and would encourage you to look on the EE for a used setup, last I checked there were a lot of them and many have been handled with kid gloves. I was thinking about a VIS or premium upper (Larue stealth, LMT BCG, Larue Rail, GTS barrel) and by the time I added it all up they were pretty close to the same price. It came down to me that if I wanted an SBR (what I'm building now with my MRP) I would need a redundant rail, electronic sight, BUIS, etc.), so if you commit to building 2 uppers and are okay with 1 upper, 2 barrels MRP is the system for you.

BTW, if you're interested in the piston setup wait for SHOT this year.

People are not always realistic about "cost".

You can get a brand new MRP for around $1200 from a few vendors on the forum. Add a BCG and you usually end up in the $1350 range for a brand new MRP.

The rub is in people than comparing the MRP to their bargain basement used Stag with an MI rail. You need to compare the MRP to complete uppers that is at least in the same quality range and those are either going to be custom builds or at the moment coming from places like Larue and Noveske.

A 16" LMT MRP: $1350
Larue Stealth upper: $1195
Noveske 16.1" Recon: $1206
Noveske 16.1" Recon with VIS: $1247
Noveske N4: $1235
Daniel Defense M4 upper: $1025
MSTN Recce: $1595

Even if you rolled your own and atempted to build an upper of similar features and quality you'll be running into the $1200 range real fast. heck I attempted to build a basic Colt M4 upper with a Larue rail a few months ago and quickly found myself on the receiving end of $1000 in no time.

You can't compare a BMW 5 series with a Honda Accord, you need to compare with an E-class merc or better to make a real comparision.

When viewed in context and with a fair comparision the LMT comes out very favorable, it isn't the most expensive nor the cheapest option out there.

I love LMT

But I couldnt bring myself to buy there MRP upper.

I think it just as easy to buy another complete upper with a Different size barrel
to switch back and fourth from!

I did buy a Defender 2000 M4 and added my own KAC RAS
