Im getting ready to start my AR47 build and want to use a flat top upper.  The upper needs to be hogged out a bit to allow for the wider AK mag.  It would get a bit thin on a standard upper and was thinking of using one of the "beefed up" uppers.  The DPMS Low Pro is not a true flat top, its a tad bit higher.  Therefore, my next choice is the Sun Devil.  My question is this.....Is the bottom of the upper where it mates with the top of the lower receiver beefed up ?? Any thoughts or opinions ??  Ive tried calling Sun Devil directly but always just get voice mail and have not gotten a return phone call.  Im sure they are busy.

Thanks for any help.

ETA-  Ok, I just read that the Sun Devil Upper only fits the Sun Devil Lower.  Is this still true ?? Can one be modified to work with a standard dimension lower ??  I have a mill.

i have one on my vulcan v62 / AR47 build. the sundevil upper is on the wider side of tolerances and the lugs needed a little sanding to fit. the walls are extra thick and leave plenty of material after widening for an ak47 mag.

The bottom is pretty beefy.  I'll try to take a picture of the bottom when I can get a chance.  You can kind of see the profile from this picture.

PS.  Also the newer SD lowers have lugs that will fit on all milspec lowers.  They originally made them with tighter specs when it was strictly used with their lowers on the S&W M&P project.
