I am pretty sure I will be buying a CMMG 16" Lightweight Mid-Length upper after Christmas.  This will be my 1st AR.  I want to buy the upper complete from CMMG and build a lower.  I'm just wondering what a good stripped lower is that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.  I plan to assemble it with a RRA 2 stage trigger, ambi saftey, Tango Down Battle Grip, and LMT Sopmod Stock or Vltor Clubfoot stock.  I haven't decided on the stock yet.  Any advise on assembling a stripped lower?

There are a lot of good lowers out there.

Essential arms $77 to $79 plus shipping
Double Star $99 plus shipping generally
Stag $99 plus shipping generally
Superior Arms $89 plus shipping generally

Frankly they're all the same, the only differences are the finish type and the roll marks

Kind of an echo here - at the last gunshow I attended stripped CMMG lowers were $10 cheaper than Stags, so that's what the CMMG upper that will arrive Friday is going on. It's the second CMMG lower I've used and I have no complaints.

A stripped lower is one of the few things that gun shows are good for, as you can see it before you get it and the absence of shipping and an FFL transfer fee easily outweigh whatever sales tax you might get hit with in Texas.

This will be my first one I've assembled that will have upper and lower from the same manufacturer.

+1 on CMMG, their products are great and they're good people.

Building a stripped lower is incredibly easy and can be done fairly quickly, even if you've never done one before.

Best advice would be to go to the "Build it Yourself" forum on this site, and look for the guides and how-to threads.  The instructions are well-written and come with good pics - you should have no problem if you just take your time and do it as shown.

Edit: here you go...

If you want a "Quality Lower" for a reasonable price, look at Sun Devil. Mil. Spec, and they have a unique adjusting fixture that tightens the lower to the upper. I have reports that these lowers are on par with Colt and LMT at a fraction of the cost. If it's for "Serious Use" you might want to consider them.

I'd like to keep it all from the same manufacturer because I'm a little OCD.  But I didn't know how hard it would be to find one and if CMMG stripped lowers were overpriced.

I have quite a few CMMG lowers and they are great. Good quality and always in spec. Not to mention a CMMG upper would really like the company of a CMMG lower.

I'd go ahead and get a CMMG lower as well.  Also, if it matters to you, the color will probably match better too.

At the gun show I mentioned above, the CMMGs were the cheapest ones at the vendor from whom I purchased, cheaper than his Stags. Another vendor had Double Stars for $1 less, making them the cheapest ones I saw.  FWIW, I've also used a stripped Double Star before, and it's just fine and dandy.

If I was getting a new stripped lower right now I would get one of those $112 MEGA's.

My favorite lower is Mega and I want to try a Sun Devil but I would go with a CMMG.  I just got a CMMG SS mid-length upper and picked up a stripped CMMG lower at the gun show.  I have put a couple AR's together and ended up selling the lower half because the color between the upper and lower was so different.  My next AR is going to be a CMMG LW.  I just have to figure out if I want a Mid or car length.

If you're going with a complete CMMG upper, then I'd go with their lower also.

All Forged Lowers are the same except for the markings.

I personally lean on DPMS lowers. good value for the money. In my area, all brands run between $100/$119 so I buy the cheapest - DPMS.

I got two builds with them and they work great, just like any other Forged Lower.

I agree, most all forged lowers are pretty much the same so it's just a matter of which one floats your boat the most or which one is cheapest if that's your biggest criteria. For me, I like to match the upper and lowers when possible so yeah, I would get a CMMG lower in your case
