My first AR was(still hav it) A Bushy shorty in A2 set-up. If I would have known then what I know now, I would have gotten it in a flet-top configuration. Since then, I have bought all my newer AR's in A3 set-up, but I am still hesitant to trade my old Bushy off. What's your opinion on A2 set-ups? Are they obsolete? |
I am dying (not literally) to get a Colt SP1. That is one A1 configuration I would love to have. To answer the original post, I would say the A2 is still a viable platform. Obviously, you are limited in optic applications somewhat. However, there are adapters that let you use M68CCO's, ACOG TA01's and EOTECH's so, it is still pretty versatile. |
Ya know, I honestly don't remember. I weighed it once shortly after I built it. If I remember correctly it was in the 6.5-7.0# ballpark. My sons carbine is probably a bit lighter yet still with his Colt upper receiver (No FA). Here he's pictured training with his "irons", and he's getting to be a pretty good marksman. Impresses my buddies at group shoots. Makes me a proud Papa Quib! (Ignore his hippy hair, it's now currently with-in regs.)

These days, you don't have to get a SP1 to have that look. With NoDak Spud's slabside lower you'll get the exact same look with a more versatile lower (small pin). I absolutely love mine.

Quib, that looks exactly like my Bushy carbine. Only difference is, I put one of those rails that screw through the vent-hole in my handguard, then mounted a forward vertical grip. It's lightwieght though. |
I wouldn't mind having a rifle like that...but with money as a constraint i have to pick and chose what I buy so I'm going with flat tops and carry handles for versatilitys sake. Oh and if you call that hippie hair...lol you should see mine. I grow mine out every year to donate to a cancer patient to have a wig made (could make $150 to $200 if I sold it to a wig shop). Right now it's probably around 10 inches |
