The Nov/Dec issue of Front Sight, the USPSA member magazine, has an article by Patrick Kelley. He uses a couple of self designed test rigs to evaluate the reduction in recoil and muzzle jump of eight different compensators. He compares the results to a bare muzzle with no comp. His results are as follows. ___Comp__________Rearward Movement_______Down Force _TTI Eliminator___________63%__________________2nd ____SJC________________63% (tie)______________6th __JP Tank_______________61%__________________5th __Miculek________________58%_________________2nd (tie) _Hill's Thunder____________57%_________________1st __JP Cooley______________56%_________________4th __Sabre's Gill_____________54%_________________7th __DNTC Neth_____________43%_________________3rd I don't see that USPSA has included this article on their web site yet, but maybe they will. This is a very well done article. It would be very interesting to expand this test with an evaluation in a 3 gun match. It would also be nice to compare the muzzle flash with these comps. Field evaluation might turn up different results in the pecking order. I have the DNTC and am very pleased with it. The lack of muzzle movement during double taps is quite impressive. |

I am familiar with most of the names on the list but not all. Any of you guys have links for TTI, and Hills Thunder. SJC looks pretty cool. I dont understand why the Miculek has more down force than the SJC being it doesnt have any holes that vent up. Maybe it is because it doesnt vent down either? |

Hill's Thunder is from Benny Hill (no, not the dead English comedian) in Corpus Christi, Texas. Benny is an IPSC Grand Master and very accomplished gun smith. His Benelli modifications are great. Here is his link: www.triangleshootingsports.com/ The TTi Eliminator is being offered by Yellow Tavern Custom, their link: www.ttiintl.com/ The Miculek comp does not have upward facing holes. It instead has the first slots extend to the top of the comp so that gas directs upward. I think there is more to the story than just recoil reduction. The 223 does not have that much. I think lack of muzzle blast (noise and fire ball) are also important. The speed of target acquisition after the first shot is probably the most important thing. These comps should be shot offhand in a competition scenario to get a full, realistic comparison. |
