Are there any quad rails that will fit into an existing system, by simply snapping them in versus reworking the upper?

Yes, many options out there for that.
See the site sponsors above.

Yes, just make sure they are not free float and you should be good, if I am not mistaken free float rails are the only ones you have to have work done in order to install.

DD and KAC are some of the best. I like MI also they are cheaper and still good quality.

MI , YHM, and KAC make popular non free float systems that directly replace the plastic handguards.

Troy and ARMS have free float system that do not require removal of the barrel to install. (One of the ARMS models even lets you keep the delta ring assembly intact).

Do you simply not want to do the extra work or do you feel like you can't do the work?

I did mine (free float) in less than 2 hours and it was the first time I had attempted it.  That included removal of the FSB and replacing it with a low profile gas block.

It is easier than you might think.

Yes, you need to look for a 2 piece rail.

Midwest Industries, Surefire, YHM, and probably several others are making them.

The Surefire one is very nice. I've used one for several years now and love it.

Talon Arms has the Samson drop in rails for sale. They are top notch and fit very securely. Once installed they look very much like KAC RAS/RIS rails. Samson rails even have the front and rear rail notched for KAC panels.

SureFire M73 is probably the simplest.
The upper half and lower half slide together, then two screws are tightened to push the upper against the lower, which pushes the upper against the FSB.

Definitely NOT a free float, but very solid, reliable and easy to install.
Five minutes to remove the old handguards and install, tops.

A lot of people just don't have any need for a FF system on a carbine.
