I own a bushy 16 inch and am in the process of building a 20" I am curious if anyone has any experince with the blackthorne uppers for sale on gunbroker. I want a quality upper without blowing my limited buget. Am also looking for a 20" dpms flat top. How would these 2 compare? thanks in advance |

Despite the bad rep these guys have had in the past, my M4 build with a blackthorne kit has run flawlessly and shoots as well as my bushy. Minus the chrome lined bore and and 4150 steel, it's a great econo-rifle. Blackthorne M4 kit = $418 shipped Essential arms lower = $100 transfered Phantom for legal length = $22 shipped from AIM Cheap basic rifle |

I currently own a 20" blacthorne upper that I plan on selling soon to generate funds for other projects. It hasnt given me any operational problems so far, but one of the FSB pins broke during a reassembly. It's pins were not the tapered, but straight and I'm not sure where to find replacment pins(there was enough of the pin left to secure the sight, though). The bolt carrier that came with has a D marking which I assume to mean DPMS, as another dpms bolt carrier I had was marked as such. I bought this to be a beater/pinker type gun and my expectations were low at purchace. A DPMS will be more of a sure thing for you, and certainly you'll have much better customer service available if anything goes wrong. I had a 16" HBAR DPMS that shot extremely well once I found the correct ammo for it. Unless your just trying to put a gun together with price being the top priority, spend a little bit more on a DPMS. |
