I am going to be putting a bipod on a 20" Bushy flat-top with an ACOG.

How should I attach the bipod? Is it best to get railed handguard, or should I go without? How does a bipod attach when ther is no rail?

The bipod is the only accesory that I am planning on attaching. Will I get enough benefit from railed handguards to make a difference? Will free floating make a much of a difference?

Thanks!

A rail would be a good way to do it if you are looking to make it a precision weapon.  If the goal is to have an all around good seup, it may not be an issue.  Only you know if you are going to select specific ammo and shoot at longer distance to max the abilities of your weapon.

It going to be a precision set up, just an all around weapon for engaging out to 600 meters or so.

How do bipods attach when there is no rail?

when there is no rail a Harris bipod requires a "Harris #5 adapter"

also Versa Pod requires its own adapter IIRC
