I was on gunbroker and came across a seller selling AR-15 uppers in 6x45.
What is a 6x45 upper or is 6x45 short for 5.56x45 or .223?

The 6x45 is the .223 case necked up to 6mm (.243). As far as I know there is no factory ammo available so it is a reloaders cartridge. Used for target years ago and now is mainly for varmints using lighter weight .243 bullets.

The 6x45 is made by runing 5.56 cases through a 6x45 resizing die. You are just necking up a 5.56/223 case to 6mm. I bought one a couple of years ago to for deer hunting.
