I am trying to find info about silencers for a .223 rifle (s&w mp15) but i am having no luck with the search function. What all is required? just a more extensive background check and a $200 fee? do you have to be 21? or is it 18+?  Also then what cans do you suggest?

thank you

You must be 21 to register an NFA item. Yes, you pay the $200 tax. Your going to need an Az class III dealer to assist you with the purchase and explain your options as far as registration to yourself, a corporation or a trust. Somewhere here on this site there is discussion about all the above, a search on "class III" would likely turn up lots of hits for you to read and research.

You can buy one from an out of state dealer like us but you must have it transferred to an in state dealer so they can transfer it to you. Since they will charge you a transfer fee, you might as well just buy it from them in the first place as the fee is usually included in the cost of a can when you get if from the transferring dealer and you'll likely save some money.

As far as what can? Gemtech and Yankee Hill Machine are two of our best sellers. They make good stuff, reasonable prices, and have good service to their dealers. There are several mounting options which again, your local dealer can help you with.

Another good source for information is the websites of the can manufacturers. Several of them have very good FAQ pages that are worth Reading.

Hope this helps some! Good luck, have fun and remember, nothing that deals with NFA is going to happen quickly or inexpensively, you need a healthy dose of patients, understanding and cash.
