Quick question for you guys, I am in the process of buying a rifle length handguard like these: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/Stalker61/yhm9479_9603_9480.gif I have a gas block like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/Stalker61/item_212_1_sml.jpg How do you install this YHM Handguard End Cap? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/Stalker61/YHM-9484.jpg It says it screws onto the end of the handguard, but don't you install the gas tube, then install the handguards, and then install the gas block? How do you screw this in with the gas tube sticking out? Any photos of your installation would be appreciated. |

The block and tube have to be out/off the rifle barel to install the end cap. Tighten to align one of the holes on the cap at the 12 o'clock position, then install the gas tube and gas block last. With the gas block you have shown, this is the procedure. If the rail were to cover the block, assuming you are using a low mounted gas block (not what you have shown), the cap would go on last. 77Bronc Sorry no pictures, I just have a lot hands on installing and working with these things |

I am not so sure that that railed gas block will fit under the rail. I just did the same thing 2 nights ago--I had a DPMS ff tube and switched out to a YHM rifle FF. I also had a railed gas block, but had to go w/ the lo profile gas block. this was done on a carbine gas system barrel. Will update my original post soon and put pics up... lmk if I can help |
Depends on what length gas system you are using. If you run a rifle length handguard over a mid-length or carbine length gas system, you need a low profile gas block. With your choice of gas block, I can only assume this is going on a rifle length gas system barrel because that gas block does not fit under a YHM handguard. That being the case, simple index the handguard cap so that one of the holes is on top. Loctite secures it and should be included with the cap. Then the gas tube will get installed into the gas block first and you slide the gas block AND gas tube on to the barrel as an assembly. |

I have not measured it, but YHM publishs that it's 1 1/16" which should just barely clear any bull barrel, but it might rub on one side of a 1.050" bull barrel, causing it not to freefloat anymore. Personally, I like 0.050" of clearance and I would re-profile a 1.050" bull barrel for that little 1/2" area to make the extra clearance. |

I have the YHM end cap and it overclocks the correct position for the gas tube through the cap hole at 12 o'clock. I backed mine loose just a hair and locktited in place. Cap is still more than flush with the FF tube and the gas tube sits nicely concentric with the end cap hole at 12. The I.D. of the end car will clear about any FH also. |
