I have a Colt MT6400 M4 that I purchased during the AWB. It came with the Colt muzzle break. The barrel is 16.1" (not counting the muzzle break). I want to remove it and replace it with an A2 Flash Suppressor. (It shoots great and the break does not bother me, but it is terrible for anyone close to me when I shoot - I am not worried about excessive muzzle climb). Here are my questions: - The Break is pinned - I do not see any welds (so I don't think it is welded), but I do not know if it is threaded or not - does anyone know for certain? - To remove, should I just punch out or 'dremel' the pin out? (I'm not in a rush here, I want to find out what needs to be done before doing it). - If it is not threaded - what are my options to get it done (i.e. who, what, where info) or can I pin the new flash suppressor on (don't need threads). Also, will threading shorten the barrel below 16.1? (In otherwords, I want to make sure not to go below the legal length). Some time ago (more than a year) someone had posted a picture of a MT6400 barrel with the break removed, I did not save the picture and can't find it under a search. If you have suggestions or photos, any assistance would be appreciated. We don't have a lot of local Gunsmiths around and the ones I have asked kind of give me a blank stare when I ask them about it hanks! ** If any of this info is out already, pls let me know where, like I said I couldn't find it in a search ** |

While you mentioned that you don't "need" threads, they are certainly the best way to go. I have threaded lots of barrels that came without them. There is no need to shorten the barrel, I just machine it down and then cut threads. Then you can put ANY flash hider on there and by staying over 16" long, there is no need for permanent attaching anything. My Shop Services page has all the details.

Gee, the only time I've ever seen a muzzle "break" is when someone fired a rifle with some dirt jammed in the last 1/2 inch. Broken muzzles are a real bummer. Oh, wait a minute---you're referring to a muzzle BRAKE. Something that STOPS recoil and muzzle rise upon firing. (Sorry--Just couldn't resist. |
