I know there are a LOT of variables that change the cost of an upper receiver, but...
What would be a reasonable price for a generic M4 upper built by an individual?
I know someone in my club that has 3 for sale. He said he would sell me one, complete with B/BC/CH for $350.00. I haven't seen them so I am assuming a plain, generic receiver.
I have about half what he wants, and I will need to sell a rifle or something to buy it.
Is that price worth the trouble? I would still need a lower, etc.

Thanks,
Jim

If it's a chrome-lined barrel with a low round count then it's a good price.

Here's what you can expect to pay even if you built one yourself

CMT flattop - $100
CMT bolt group - $120
CMT charging handle - $20
Generic chrome-lined M4 barrel - $200
Generic M4 handguards - $20
Delta ring assembly - $15
Gas tube - $30

I will ask if the barrel is chrome lined.
He built 3 and fired them enough to ensure they function.
He is selling the other 2 minus the B/BC/CH for the same price- he's giving me a break since we shoot together at our club.
He also has an excellant rep with the other club members so I am not concerned with his quality.
I had not been looking for another upper, but this just came up.
Since I have been basically turning my Colt HBAR into a service match rifle I would like a second AR that is shorter and lighter.

350 for a complete upper is a real good deal, even better if chrome lined.
