Okay you got a couple of options here. If you're semi savvy w/ tools then you can go free float and install a rail yourself but you'll have to remove the flash hider and FSB. Not hard to do and there's a tutorial in the BIY forum. Secondly if you want some rails that are 2 pc. and simply snap into where your existing handguards were then I'd opt for either a KAC rail from the EE (these are on there all the time and for a pretty good deal...don't buy new b/c they're very expensive new.), or a Midwest Industries 2pc. You can even look at YHM. There's oogles and oogles more FF's and 2pc rails but I was just naming a few. If I were you I'd go check out the BIY forum and the Uppers,Lowers,Barrels, etc. forum where there is a tacked thread about forearm rails w/ lots of info. Don't forget though if you're going free float and it's a one piece free float design, you have to remove the FSB (which means you also have to remove the FH) which means you better hope your barrel is 16" w/ out the FH so it's not permanently attached. |

Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 Check out those three links, the first one is my post. I purchased the surefire Quad rail system. I looked over many different systems before going with surefire. The system does not move once it is in place. But you need to know what length your hand guards are before even starting pick which way to go. But with the surefire system, it took longer for me to get my old hand guards off than it took me to install the surefire rail system. Also you have to do a lot of work to install the free float system. If you want to be able to remove and install the new rail system in a matter of 5 min do not go with a free float. If you do not have someone there who knows how to take all the pieces apart..... but more importantly put them back together don't get free float type. Atleast thats how I feel. -Martin |
Installing a free-float isn't so bad, matter a fact, it doesn't even fall under the category of "work". It's more like a labor-of-love. M. LaRue |
