Any feedback, thoughts or information on the Bushmaster Superlight Upper reciever performance and durability? I am seriously considering purchasing this upper unit as I have been wanting a very light weight black rifle for my personal side-kick.

I used the BM superlight Brl in two of my builds.  I like them and they are a good value for a LW build. But for about 1/3 more you can gMMG 14.5" LW that will be lighter, shorter (right at 16" with perm attached muzzle device) will have the more versitle 1:7 twist and M4 feed ramps.

I definitely like my Bushmaster Superlight carbine.  It will heat up fairly fast if you are shooting a lot, but it also cools down pretty fast as well.  Mine seems to be quite accurate even after it has heated up.

+1

My Bushmaster have been outstanding

I would rather have a 14.5 1/7 twist

Something I don't understand: as per the "ammo-oracle", for a measly 1.5" of barrel more you get better ballistics and velocity. Considering that if it's to be legal you have to SBR a 14.5" barrel or make it 16" anyways by permanently attaching a muzzle device, what is the big attraction of 14.5" barrel lengths? Cool factor? Because the .gov uses them? How much more weight could 1.5" of barrel (especially a lightweight one) really add to the gun?

1.5 inches makes more difference then you'd think.

Not really AR experience (mine is a 20-incher), but I have a removable 74 brake on my AK. Just from screwing around in the hall of my house, taking off that 2" brake makes a noticable difference in handling in enclosed spaces.

When I get a carbine put together, you'll be damn sure it has a 14.5+muzzle brake on it for 16.1" oal.

the 14.5 puts the barrel past the gas port at the same length as the original design which maintains a dwell time equal to the original spec.  However, with all the upgraded extractor springs and doodads it doesn't seem to be as critical as it used to be.

However, the 14.5's just look better than the 16s if you are using shorty handguards.
