I just recieved my S&W 15T today and I'm wondering how the hell you put the 3 piece hand guards on? Do I start from the top and slip down the guard or can I snap the guards in place where I want them? (Or do you guys just leave them off)

Sorry for the stupid Question....

Do you mean rail covers??

If so yes you start at the pointy end and come down till there where you want them...

Yes, rail covers..... If I try to slide them down from the top, the covers are hard to slide. Are they suppose to be a a pain in the butt to put on ? I think I'm doing something wrong...

I bought a regular S&W and put Troy 7 inch rails on it. They covers are a little hard to put on. You do have to slide them down from the top.

Replace the factory covers with something nicer... M&P15T is a cool gun, with all nice stuff on it... except the rail covers. I think they really chinced out on those!

having tried most of the options available, I use "ladder" style protectors.

Are you lifting up on the tab while you're sliding them? Those covers are great, keep them. IMO while they do look cool all the ladders do is keep the rails from getting dinged on the edges, they do not buffer the heat at all.

This is the first time I've ever seen anyone complain about tangodown rail covers.

Most people, myself included, think they are great.

Now you've heard it twice.  I don't like them either.  I got some free for some warranty work and I sold them.  I also prefer the Ladder style.  They don't protect from the heat, but I rarley have to worry about that.  I don't like the added width that rail covers add.  I like the ladder style, because they protect the rails and my hands from the sharp edges.  That's all I expect from rail covers.  Heat has never been an issue.  The vertical grip seems to prevent most contact with the rail.

I put the Magpul covers on my Troy Rails they were a little tight to begin but once you have them started.... if you can load a magazine you can put these on too.

I have tango down on my troy rail also and like them although I could see why it would be nice to have thinner ones

The rail covers that come with the S&W M&P15T do not slide on, they snap over the rails where you want them.

As for them being a bit silly, yes, I thought that when I first got it, but I like them better now.

The heat started to warp my VFG. I could feel the heat through my Magpul XT covers. Without full rail covers, I would have severely burned my hand.

All the initial articles and press info on the M&P showed it with TANGO panels, but the actual production models shipped had the YHM type panels.  I work in a gun store, and we're selling them as quick as we can get them, but I've yet to see one come with the TANGOs like advertised...I e-mailed S&W but received zero response.  I purchased the first M&P Tactical that came in, and I absolutely love it...it's a fantastic rifle.  I did prompty ditch the cheezey panels and install TANGOs!
