Hi fellas

I am new to the world of AR's and wound up buying a Stag lefty.  I am very pleased with it and have been thinking about another purchse - a mid-length.  My first thought was to simply (simply concept-wise. maybe hard to actually pull off) replace replace the barrel and gas-tube/gas block.  In my lmited knowledge, this presents a number of problems:  feed ramps, barrel extensions, and maybe some others I haven't foreseen.

1.  Barrel Extension.  Since the reciever/existing barrel are lefty models,  a left-handed barrel extension is needed (right?)  Do all new barrels come with barrel extensions already attached?  Can they be removed/replaced?  Is such an operation even feasible or does someone sell lefty barrels?

2.  Feed ramps.  Most of the barrels I was looking at (Bravo Company, Denny's, CMMG) have M4 feed ramps on them.  From the pictures I've seen and from what I've read, M4 ramps need the receiver to be likewise machined, correct?  It appears the ol Stagarooski in fact has rifle feed ramps.  Can the receiver be retrofitted?

Thoughts?  Ideas?  Are these problems infact one the same since the feed ramps are in the extension?  Is replacing the barrel a good idea or should I plan on a whole new rig?

Thanks for the feedback,
Tom

Sorry for the length, I hope you guys were sitting down and didn't miss dinner because of reading this.
Woohoo... first post

I built a Left Hand Stag Arms AR.  I used the Stag upper and left handed bolt and carrier.  I used a Bushmaster barrel.  There is no way for the builder like you and I to replace a barrel extension.  This would have to be done by a very experienced builder with a machine shop.  The only difference on the Stag barrel extension is that the extension lugs have been tapered on both sides to allow for a easier unlock of the bolt from the extension.  My rifle works fine without the Stag entension.  I believe you could file off the edges of the extension lugs with a small file and get the same effect.

All the factory barrels come with barrel extension already in place and properly installed and timed.  You can buy the complete Stag upper assembly in left handed and it will have all the right parts.  Unless you have someone build you a custom barrel and use the Stag ambi barrel extension you are out of luck.  On the other hand mine works just fine without it.  Your mileage may vary.

You can use a barrel with M4 brl. extenion in a std. upper receiver, just not the other way around.  So with your std. upper receiver, you could use either barrel extension.
