| I know this was probably asked about a thousand times and i did search and cannot find any opinions on this. I am currently in the process of putting together an sbr. I was checking out the bushy uppers to match my lower, but i have heard alot of good things about cmmg and they have a few more choices as opposed to bushmasters. I just want to do this right the first time so any help would be greatly appreciated! Are there any other manufacturers out there i should look into besides these two? |

CMMG replaced a lower for me, and hand matched an upper with the new one. They were completely accommodating every step of the way. And I'm one of those perfectionist type customers that find fault with stuff that normal people wouldn't. CMMG all the way. God Bless, David |

It depends on whats important to you. I you want a proven durable product buy a Colt. Other options would be CMT/Stag, LMT, BCM. When it come to spending less on the the tier two and teir three manufacturers at least Bushmaster has a proven track record. It was not long ago that CMMG was simply selling DPMS products. |
I doubt it. Unless they have an aluminum foundry in their office as well as a machine shop. I find it more likely they are finish machining somebody elses raw forgings or subcontracting out the entire process. |
Teir Two? Do you own a CMMG product? Why would you say Teir 2. I've had an Armalite, BM, and now I have a CMMG. I like the CMMG the best. I've seen Colt, (and yes there of quality) but IMHO they aint all that. (too much koolaid). I'd have to say that CMMG is right up there with the rest of them. |
Everyone machines some one elses raw forgings. |
Yes.
because teir 1 manufacturers use the correct milspec Mil-Spec 11595E - 4150 Grade Barrel Steel. Chrome Lined Bore and Chamber. Manganese Phosphate Barrel Finish. Pressure Test Barrels. MPI Barrels & Bolts. F marked forged front sight bases. When CMMG makes all those thing standard, then they will be teir 1. |
Last time I ck'd they had 4150 grade bbls, Chrome lined Bores and Chambers. Not sure about the finish, but I believe it is Manganese phosphate? Maybe just a good Parkerized finish. I don't think they preasure test, but I do believe they have MPI bbls, not sure about the Bolts, but then again I don't think all of the makes that you mentioned do all of this. "F" marked front sight post. I'm sure they'll have one for you if you asked. No War on this topic, and no hate. I am just saying that they are a Class act, and in my opinion they are Tier 1. Your opinion is that they are not, and that's fine. That's your opinion. If you want to spend more $$ on a Colt then that is your decision. I won't spend the extra "Jack" for a Colt. If I come across a good used one at a price I couldn't pass up, I'd buy it. I'm not dumb. Same goes for any make. |
+1. I suspect anyone who says CMMG isn't top notch probably has never handled one.....but to each their own. |
| After using a Colt RO979 for many years in the 82nd, I purchased a Bushmaster M4. I chose the Bushy because of there excelent reputation. They also sell about as many AR's as Colt, DPMS, Armalite, and RRA put together. People wouldn't buy that many of them if they were not quality. However I did purchase the Bushy before I knew anything about CMMG. From what I am hearing they seem to be great rifles. For maybe $100-$200 over the Bushy, CMMG offers a lifetime warranty. Bushy only offers a 1 year warranty. This didn't bother me much because I figured if its gona break it will do so in the first year. After that I can just fix it myself. I am interested in seeing which of the two comapnies makes more accurate rifles though. I think I will be buying a match rifle down the road and I will be looking into CMMG and Bushmaster for the best product. |

My vote is for CMMG. I have nothing against Bushmaster, they make a quality product. Quality to the point that I recommended them to my Dept. for purchase and we bought 2 last year, hopefully 2 more this year. My vote is for CMMG. I own 3 of their uppers and have 2 more coming in next week. 1 will be in an SPR configuration. I support them because of their product and Customer Service. I spoke with John this afternoon about the Special SPR build. The other thing I like about CMMG is that you can get what you want built and a price that will fit in your budget. You have the option and they are all on their website. You click on what and how, you get the price, you pay and you get the upper in about a week. I have owned Colts, Olympics, DPMS. Never had a problem with any of them. Good luck |

I bought a CMMG A4 upper and I'm not completely happy. The barrel is excellent; USGI profile, chrome lined, F height FSB, 1:7, and shoots very well. The upper receiver and BCG were dissapointing. The charging handle had a "crackle" type finish and has already been replaced. The upper receiver has a teflon finish and doesn't seem to be wearing right on the inside. There also seems to be more carbon in the receiver than usual. Carbon is on the buffer face, usually it stays inside the BCG and on the bolt. Would I have been happier with a bushmaster? probably not, as I couldnt get the config I wanted straight away; I may have been able to get on a list or something, but CMMG had the upper to my door in three days. And I don't think they make a better barrel, not in my experience. I may send the upper off to white oak, have the receiver replaced, gas system checked. I may not, hell it shoots great. I haven't contacted CMMG because I feel that they sold me a satisfactory product at that price point, and I'm looking for something more than what they normaly offer. If I had to do it again I would have just order the barrel assembly and send it to White Oak for an A4 upper. |
