I've read the thread on the test to determine the best flash hiders. But I have not seen one on muzzle brakes.

What would be the best muzzle brake for you in terms of controlling muzzle flip with the least noise and flash.  Hoping for some input on this.

Thanks

While mostly used in custom bolt action rifles the Shrewd MB is one of the best I have seen at taming the recoil of big bore rifles.

IIRC, the Miculek (sp) is probably best for the AR15, (I see them on alot of 3-gun shooter's rifles).

I had a smith enterprises brake on a 16" hbar colt. Really liked it alot and it wasn't too noisy. Really tamed muzzle rise. That brake now has a NSN number.

Thanks for the advice.  Will give the Smith and Miculek a try.

I don't have a lot of experience with brakes, but I have heard great things about the PRI MSTN QC Brake.
I personally know of a rifle company of Marines, that when on their 2nd deployment equipped with this brake.

Does anyone know if there is a brake that has a 22mm diameter and about the same size as an A2?  A little longer is OK, but it has to be 22mm.  I want to build a 3 Gun upper, but still use my Gemtech HALO on it (thus the 22mm requirement.)

A sound suppressor.

Secondly, for "real good" muzzle control with not quite as painful report, try the MSTN QC comp.
It is as effective as the JP BC comp but less loud.

Those two, plus the Miculek comp, are probably the comps you see most often used by 3Gun competitors.

For 3-gun I use the TROY medieval brake, and I've been very impressed with it.  In conjunction with my Enidine buffer, the rifle shoots sswweeeett!

Most effective Brake I have used it a four port Ops Inc.  It is also the loudest I have ever heard.

The one I had on my 14.5-inch carbine made a muzzle flash that you had to see to believe, even with surplus ammo. I'd bet that any of them that are installed on an M4 get removed pretty quickly. It does controll muzzle climb very well, though.

These are very good brakes, I use one on my 10.5" upper. But there is still a lot of noise and flash.
I had a guy next to me at a shoot ask if it was a flash enhancer.

I DO NOT ENDORSE THE MSTN QC BRAKE ON THE 10.5" BARRELS. ON THEM, I PREFER THE PHANTOM 5C2 OR NOVESKE KX3. 14.5" AND UP, I'LL TAKE THE MSTN QC BRAKE.

I just got done with a precision class (actually, half the class) running the MSTN qc brake.

While it was great for me (gun barely moved, i could keep my cross hairs on the target), it 'upset' some of the more feminine of the crowd who shot next to me

Must have been real "girly" crew. You have not expeienced LOUD, unless you have RO'd a Match with someone shooting a hot (major) 38Super with a 4-port barrel comp & a Shumen Hybrid barrel shooting through a barrel. It will do more than rattle you teeth, even with a set of Com-Tac plus ear plugs.

i hear ya...and for a bunch of cops and swat guys...'girly' did apply :)

i was austricized to the far right side of the firing line for the rest of class, because the brake and the brass was 'too much'

I am going to get a stainless bull barrel upper. I have the option of getting the muzzle ported. Question is, would that be worth it? Or is there someone out there that makes a nifty break for this size of barrel. I am basicly going after the tactical sniper look but I will use this gun for "chuck" hunting so I want minimal recoil.

Thanks for the help

i think the mstn qc brake would get the job done for reducing recoil....

never seen a ar15 barrel ported before? interesting..
