What do you guys think of the Surefire handguards/ rails?

I have been looking at the model that replaces the factory handguard.

+1 for Surefire's M73.  As you may know the DEA seems to like them too on their new RRA carbine.

It locks up rock solid on the barrel via two beefy set screws.  This is why I chose it over the KAC RAS.  My KAC RAS's lower rail had a slight wobble with a vertical grip.

No modifications to the host weapon are required.  It has KAC rail cover cuts in all four rails.  The top rail sits lower than the height of a flattop which I like because it keeps the rail relatively slim.  I can't find anything wrong with the system unless of course you prefer a larger diameter rail or a free floated rail.

mounts up solid but i didnt like the fact that the top rail was lower.

If the top rail is lower, are the side rails closer  making it less wide overall?

Yep, a smaller diameter all the way around.

Great set-up for non-FF uses, very solid.  I like them.

Anyone have the weight of the M73? And does that weight include the barrel nut?

I did a write up on them a while back.ar15reviews.com

We haven't worked on the site lately, one of us is in Iraq, and I've been busy with work.

Take care.
