Friggin hell yes, Tom put me down for one

I want something short, no carbon wrapping. Maybe 14.5" with one of those Noveske Krink FH permed on.

I know you said only the propietary barrel lenghts from AA would be available, but do ou think Mike could do this for me when you guys officially release them?

Congrats to you both!!!!!

This should be great news to those concerned about availability of, and options for, the cartridge.

Sweet! Options are good! My vote for is short barrels with mid-length ports. Is that possible? I wonder what a 14" with a permanent Krink or Vortec(x) to give 16" or something would be like? Or a 12.5 with mid-length port? Well, you guys are the experts, but it would be nice to see some more experimentation in Grendel SBRs.

Congrats to both Tom and Randall, and God bless your business endeavors!

John

Cool, I think. I know the quality of both of you pending license, but I'm really wanting to see if the other issues related to the G are sorted out first before I decide if this is a good thing.

It seems somehow odd to me that AA has taken so long to get to licensing. Further, that they would specify that only those configurations/barrel lengths that THEY specify could be made/sold? Well, there goes a TON of free R&D! Not least of which would be a 12 inch carbine to be shot right alongside that other 6 something to get an apples to apples picture .

It does open up a few more options, but until that whole "Barrel lengths are yet to be determined, pending any conditions set by Alexander Arms. At this time, I can only say that the barrel lengths currently supported by AA, will be available." thing becomes nul and void (like about any other reamer on the planet), I'm in the "cautiously optimistic" category. If they mandate their freaky barrel profiles and gas blocks, you can keep the whole lot!

I can guarantee (based on really negative personal experience) that anything G that comes from someplace other than AA is going to come with a billion percent better customer service! (Yes, I own a 20 inch AA upper, yes, it shoots great)

As a side note, has Grendel been submitted to/approved by SAAMI yet?

Tom

Bill posted last year (2005) that he was leaning to CIP standard rather than SAAMI. Since CIP has a reciprocal agreement with SAAMI, then whole "proprietary" moniker goes out the window.

FWIW, I think that Bill, et al, wanted to build demand by suppling good quality products and it seems that AA has done that, again.

Things looks interesting for Grendel lovers in 2006.

TWL, if AA has no stipulations against 6.5G SBRs, would you be "open" to doing them?

Actually, having brought up SBRs, I should say I'm in the camp that says a 16" is about the perfect general-purpose combat barrel length. And then there's the practical matter of no-hassle civilian purchasing. . . .

This is great news! I can't wait to get a barrel for my MGI upper. I'm assuming someone will help us all out with where to make reliefs on the ejection port for the 6.5G round, because I understand some modification is necessary.

Regarding ejection port mods, I remember reading an interview of Bill Alexander (I think in Shooting Illlustrated) and the ejection port was, indeed, enlarged by some ridiculously small amount (at least, as it seemed to me, and I can't remember the dimension). Anyway, does anyone know if Colt enlarged the port on their 7.62x39 versions? Since it's the base case for the Grendel, that might be instructive.
