I never had this happen with any of my KAC M4 Ras handguards, but there is up and down slop of the lower handguard at the front cap. Upper is a LMT 10.5"
 Any suggestions??

This might seem a silly Q.....but, is the leaf spring (top, front end of upper RAS) under the handguard cap? and is the tension screw installed correctly.

Yes. The top half`s spring clip is under the cap. It`s the lower half and it has up and down movement at the front handguard cap only.

I bent the lower heat shields out a bit to take care of the slop in mine.

Is there a chance the barrel diameter behind the HG cap is a hair out of spec?

I don`t think so. I`ve got the same Ras setups on other LMT`s and they all fit snug.

Hmm...
Try putting the loose one on a barrel that another RAS fits snug.
If it is still loose, it's the RAS.

If you're not afraid to bang on your rig, try bending in the heatshields so they don't rest in the notches
in the upper half. This might help the machined edges sit flush.

Maybe try banging on the HG cap lip to bring the halves closer together.

You could always try shimming with strips of aluminum foil!

(can you tell I had an RAS fit one barrel and not another?! )
