i remember seeing an artical in a gun mag about a company making a piston driven upper a year ago. from what i recalled, the photos on the upper looked pretty impressive. I am not refering to the ZM weapon systems either. the upper looked liked a typical M4 upper with a RAS mount. the bolt and carrier looked exactlly like an AR unit. the only differance was that this upper had a gas piston system similar to that of a G36. it was possitioned exactlly where the gas tube would be. If anyone has any info or photos please let me know. I would be really interested in one these if it exist.

There are two system right now, besides the HK system.  Leitner-Wise has a system and a forum in the Industry section.  Their website is: leitner-wise.com/.  Also, Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF) has a system.  They too have a forum in the industry section.  Their website is pof-usa.com.  I don't have experience with either one, but if you do a search on either, you should turn up lots of good info. from other forum members.

I have the POF 9" OCC upper and it is a very nice piece.  I have only shot about 300 rounds through it so far but I didn't have a single issue and when I took it apart it looked so clean that I decided NOT to clean it.  I can't say that I ever did that with my other direct gas impingement AR's.

I think I will be getting my 10.5" upper converted by LW and do a direct comparison.  The one thing I like about the LW system is if anything happens to the gas piston system you can convert it back to direct gas impingement easily and quickly (according to phone discussion I had with someone at LW).  Can't do that on the POF design.

Got my order placed for the LW 16.1" upper.  The waiting is driving me crazy but I'll post a big fat range report when I get it and shoot it.  From other tests of it and from the pics I've seen the LW system looks quite sweet!

I've seen a thread here on ARFCOM somewhere about someone's piston-driven upper.  6000 or so rounds with no malfunctions or cleaning, and the bolt looks clean as new.

Didn't KKF make a piston upper?  I thought I saw one on their website.
