| I understand the difference between a .223 Rem. and a 5.56 NATO chamber. But where does the Wylde chamber come into this? What are its dimensions? Advantages and Disadvantages. |

If .223 is "tight" and 5.56 is "loose", then Wylde falls in somewhere in the middle. It is supposed to give you the flexibility of the 5.56 chamber, while maintaining some of the accuracy of a tighter chamber. The difference is in the throat area of the chamber, with lead angles and such differing slightly. |

http://www.radomski.us/njhp/cart_tech.htm as you can see, the Wylde has a large body to accomodate milspec 5.56mm ammo, but a somewhat short throat and shallow lead angle. The idea being to function reliably with everything (hence the loose chamber body) but maintain good accuracy with match grade rounds. (hence the tight throat.) I have an RRA A4 with this kind of chamber, and it's never jammed, even with crappy eastern bloc surplus junk from gunshows. On the other hand, it managed decent groups with nicer stuff. |
