OK, apologizing in advance but I've read and read and looked at picture threads until my eyes hurt and haven't found what I'm looking for.

I got this last week:

http://www.parkcitiestactical.com/album/00001552/MVC006F.JPG

It's a Bushie, 14.5" with permanently attached izzy suppressor.  I'm looking for replacement handguards with a rail on the bottom only so that I can attach a vertical grip.  Does such an animal exist or am I going to have to get something with rails all around?  Or, is there a vertical grip that will attach to the standard handguards?

Thanks much.

GG&G offers a product called the UFIR (Under Fore-end Integrated Rail.) Search around for one of them. They're everywhere, so you're bound to find a good price.

You can get an accessory rail add-on that attaches with special screws and washers through the standard hand guards, or you can buy 2 piece rail systems that are just like the standard hand guards but have a rail under a slide-off  cover.  CDNN has the add on rails but Im not sure about the handguard system with the covers (try fulton armory I think).  If your not looking for that stock look I would suggest a 2 piece RIS or RAS otherwise.

If you like the standard carbine sized handguards, see if you can get 1/2 of a Fobus M33 railed handguard set.  The rail will be just fine for a VFG and if you want to take it off, put their cover back on the rail and it looks and feels like a standard handguard.

I had GG&G UFIRs on my carbines.  With blue Loc-tite, they were acceptable.  I still have the UFIRs on one gun (set it up so one rail is on top and the other on the bottom).  It's okay, but I'm not sure I'd stake my life on this setup.  I have other GG&G parts, including one of their vertical foregrips.  They are nicely made, but appear to have compatibility issues and non-standard sizing in some respects.

Yankee Hill Machine (and others) make rails to mount on the standard CAR and M4 handguards.  From a cost standpoint, if all you are going to mount is a vertical foregrip, this may make some sense.  If you are planning to mount anything else, however, the cost of two rails approaches the price of a four-rail system.

I recently installed a Yankee Hill Machine 2-piece 4-rail handguard.  After some fitting (it was too long for my Colt M4 barrel, but I understand they fit Bushmasters and RRA without modification), it works wonderfully with the Surefire M900As I have on both guns.  Cost delivered was $110.00.  Well worth the money.  Rock solid.  Much less expensive than a KAC RAS and the Tango Down rail covers fit perfectly.  I'll probably put one on my other carbine.  You might also give a look at the Surefire M73 and similar models from LaRue and Daniels Defense.

I would not buy something made of plastic like the Samcos.  They are going to wear out sooner (i.e., things won't mount solidly anymore - and could fall off at the wrong moment) and are more susceptible to breakage.  Considering how inexpensive the YHM handguard is, there is no reason to buy plastic.

As for vertical foregrips, the GG&G is nicely made.  If you can afford it, I would give the Dieter alloy foregrip a look - it is beautifully made and extremely solid, and would stand up well if you intended to use the gun for muzzle strikes or the like (as if we all have these kinds of issues to deal with).  KAC vertical foregrips are quite inexpensive, but I'd probably go with a GG&G if you're thinking about a plastic foregrip.  I've looked at the ARMS vertical foregrip with the QD lever, but from a purely aesthetic point of view, it is plain ugly.

If you want an integrated light and navigation LEDs, then look at an M900A foregrip from Surefire (used ones are infinitely cheaper than brand new ones).  I have been very pleased with this set-up.  It is well-made and has a lifetime warranty.
