| Anyone had any experience with the new CROS (corrosion resistant operating system)? Looked pretty ingenious. I heard that HK was doing something like this (designed by Larry Vickers) but I recently read that this idea was squashed due to Colt filing some lawsuit. |

Welcome to the boards. I'm not sure about 'CROS', but HK had an "HK-M4" that was basically an M4 with a gas piston operating system. There were several threads about it a year ago when it was first introduced but Colt filed suit over the use of the trademarked name "M4". |

oscar_corgi, The C.R.O.S (Corrosion Resistant Operating System), was designed by us. Thanks for the kind words. Thank you, the C.R.O.S. works very well. C.R.O.S. comes standard on all of our AR15/M16 gas piston uppers/weapons. Our C.R.O.S. has a chrome lined barrel/chamber, chrome lined gas block/tube, chrome plated gas plug, chrome plated gas piston, and chrome plate bolt carrier assembly. Hope you enjoy the picture. Best regards, Frank Patriot Ordnance Factory, Inc. (POF-USA) www.POF-USA.com Here's a picture of our system using C.R.O.S. ![]() |

oscar_corgi, Troy Industry sells our gas piston system using their MRF free floating rail system. We have been testing for awhile and will soon offer our "P-416" gas piston system using both the A2 (carry handle), and A3 (flat top) receivers using the standard plastic hand guards. This will allow us to lower our suggested retail price for our gas piston uppers. We will continue to make our system flexible so items like the RAS and other systems can be used and will offer other calibers too. Best regards, Frank Patriot Ordnance Factory, Inc. dntama, The "P-416" gas piston AR15/M16 uppers and rifles have been selling for sometime now. We are very busy shipping customers orders. The piston doesn't rattle. it moves rearward and forward in the gas block/tube. The piston engage the gas plug and the Op-rod engaes the machanical key/Drive key put push the carriers rearward to eject and reload a new round from the magazine. There is absolutely no way a KAC RAS can be used with this system. Take a look at the RAS, it has a tensioned clamp that pushes against the handguard cap in the front. Theres no way that huge piston tube will fit in the channel cut for a regular gas tube...... |

ian187, Front sight is factory height. Flat top upper and carry handle upper. Cboyer All standard flip up sites work with our system. QuikSilver, Never say never. Troy Industry is selling their QCB-A5 rifles using our "P-416", gas piston uppers. They use their MRF rail system, with their awesome flip up battle sights. Maybe the tension clamp could be modified? Just a thought. Best regards, Frank Patriot Ordnance Factory, Inc. (POF-USA) www.POF-USA.com |

Even a modified RAS clamp wouldn't work. The clamp attaches to the REAR portion of the gas tube. Unless I'm missing something, the REAR portion on the P-416 is the oprod, which would be moving. It seems like it wouldn't even be worth trying to modify a RAS when you can use a Troy system. Maybe a KAC RIS would work, but I don't know, just tossing it out there. I'm quite interested in this. It looks sort of FAL-esc. I like FALs |

I thought the CROS was designed by Bob Davies? Is that correct or have I been grossly misinformed? The front sight base appears to be cast. Any particular reason you chose casting over forging or even billet? Why is there no piston return spring? Perhaps the carrier key buffer negates that? When do you anticipate a unit available with standard handguards? Sorry for all the questions... |

dntama, We will be displaying our A2 (carry handle) and A3 (flat top) receiver, using standard plastic hand guards on our "P-416" gas psiton systems at The world Swat challenge at Front Site this week end. We hope to sell for about $150.00 less. The system is called the RROC (pronounced Rock). We introduced C.R.O.S. (Corrosion Resistant Operating System), standard on all of our "P-416" gas piston uppers. The entire operating system of our "P-416" is chrome plated. The front sight is made from Billet material, heat treated , then the I.D. bore is chrome plated and then the outside of the gas block is parkerized. Our system can be used with or without a return spring. We have three different gas piston systems that can be used in our system and each gas piston design can operate with or without a spring. I personally prefer without spring. Reason heat will affect spring steel over time, and there is one less part in the system. Yes. Standard hand guards in 8 weeks. We will display our uppers this week end with standard plastic hand guards and using the carry handle and flat top uppers. No problem with the questions. I would do the same if I were to be spending money on a new system. I would try to find out as much information as I could before I purchased. If you chopped the barrel to 10.5inches would the upper work with a sound suppressor attached. Without? Is there any way to ajust the gas system? What's maintenance like? Is there a lot of noise or flash comming out of the gas system? What's typical average accuracy at 100yds with you or a good shooter on a bench? |
|
Green0, YES, with or with out. Mike Brown the owner of Jet Suppressors has a 10" "P-416" upper. Our "P-416" comes with a reversable piston which has two rates of fire when used. Very simple to maintain. Just remove our 90° gas plug to clean our gas piston. We like using scotch brite pad to clean the carbon off the piston. Clean you chamber/barrel as normal. Wipe off/clean the carbon on the bolt face. reassemble with your oil of choice used on the carrier. We found our system to shoot as well as the standard gas system. David Fortier was able to shoot under 1 MOA (.875), 5 shoot group with Hornady TAP, and Black hills ammo with and standard trigger group. Hope we answered all your questions.
