I saw a picture on here where a company had dimpled the barrel vs fluting it.  Can anyone point me in the direction of that?  I didnt have any luck with the search.  It just kind of perked some curiosity and i wanted to take a closer second look at it.  Thanks

That's a sweet SR-25.  I'm going to draw that pattern up on the computer at work and maybe do a barrel with that pattern.

Thanks for the quick reply on the picture. Now that i look at it close it almost looks like the dimples in the rear of the barrel are deeper than the ones toward the front.  Looks like you can see more of a flat part on it before you get to the rounded center.  I wonder if that means either the barrel has a slight taper or if the dimples are just deeper twards the reciever.  Im looking for some info on this and some related things that i think may be useful so ill post it when i find something good.  Anyone else feel free to put in your thoughts or findings.    SMGLee thanks for the pictures if you read this.  Major

The barrel dimpling is our (KAC) effort to provide User's with a barrel as stiff as a heavy (read: full) contour barrel for consistant accuracy and shot placement, while not burdening him with a "heavy barrel."  Typically, this machining technique removes a pretty significant amount of weight while providing the same accuracy as the original full-diameter barrel.
In addition, when a precision rifle must be fired with extreme rapididly, the dimples significantly increase surface area cooling to help preserve inherent bore life, and increase cook-off threshold.
This is a standard feature on our SR-25 Battle Rifles that are currently in the hands of select US Military and Counter-Terrorist units.
Our Battle Rifle was intended to be a compromise between the lethality (read: 7.62x51mm), accuracy and precision of the 20" barrel Mk 11 Mod 0, and the size, weight, and portability of the 5.56mm M4A1 Carbine.
As these Battle Rifles have M4 type telescoping butstocks and 14.5" barrels, they pretty much meet the requirement.
Also note, that our effort to make the BR as light weight as possible led to the development of the URX Forend Rail System.
