I recently got a CMMG 14.5 upper with standard hanguards.  I replaced those with the 2 piece YHM 4 rail handguards.
I noticed that the spring that adds pressure to the handguard retainer is clearly visable.  There seems to be enough tension to the new handguards and they feel rock solid.  I'm just wondering how much of the spring should I actually see?
I don't have a pic, but basically there is about a 1/4 inch gap between the upper receiver and the handguard retainer and I can see the spring there.  It seems obvious to me that the spring NEEDS to push against the upper receiver in order to provide tension to hold the handguards on.

Am I being overly worried here?

(I didn't notice how much of the spring was visable when the original plastic handguards were in place. My theory is that the YHM guards are just a bit shorter than the standard plastic ones)

Any input/thoughts?

Any thoughts? Yes, you're nuts with a bad case of OCD.

From what you describe it's supposed to be that way. There is an 1/4" gap between the upper receiver and the delta ring. The base of the weld spring can be seen but should not be protruding out in any way. It not supposed to press against the upper. There's a lip on the barrel (barrel extension to be exact) and on the barrel nut that keeps things in place. Go look at the picture thread and you'll see it's ok.

heh heh, I guess I was asking for that.
But thanks for the info.  I thought it was all ok. Just wanted to make sure I was OK.  Sounds like I'm good to go.

I figured out what the problem was.
The snap ring had slipped over the lip on the upper, allowing the weld spring to extend out.  After much wedging, a few scraped hands, and a good bit of cussing, I was able to pop it all back into place.
Man, I thought those YHM handguards were solid before.  Now they seem like they were an original part of the system.  Looks great!
