I have a RRA 16" A4 with a RRA free float.  I assume the handgaurd screws on and off. And if so and I install a lug to add a bi-pod, how can i assure indexing back to the bottom.  Or is these something I am missing?  Do you remove it with a strap wrench?

If this is the case, how does a quad rail style (RRA, YHM or the others) attach?  Do you just tighten until the bottom rail is indexed and stop there?

Thanks,

The RRA tube is 1-piece, which means it IS the barrel nut.  You have no guarantee it will re-index the right way.

If all you want to do is add a bipod stud, just drill it in place and use something to hold the backer nut in place while you tighten the stud from the outside.

Most of the rail systems have a separate barrel nut, and then a handguard retaining nut behind the bbl nut which pulls the FF rail to the rear against the bbl nut.  The FF rails typically have two index pins which engage two of the holes in the bbl nut to ensure its timing.

On the one piece tubes just mark bottom dead center.  You should be able to get it real close by removing the upper from the lower and using the two receiver lugs to center the hole location. (visually)  After you drill the hole use a hemostat or a thin pair of needle nose plyers to hold the lock nut.
