Thinking about pulling the trigger on a MRP upper. They offer ss barrels, is it worth extra 120.00? Do they shoot 120.00 better? Also thinking about full length with 16 barrel. I'm not one that wants to load up the rails with santas toys but thought that since these puppies are so expensive that I would try and plan for the "future". Maybe bigger calibers down the road might warrant bipods etc...? Am I thinking on the right levels. If this was not such a huge purchase I would not hesitate to make decisions but I thought I would get yalls feedback? Thanks Daddy |

I would NOT go with the SS, but that is just me. I have plenty of SS barrels, and they all shoot great, but I wouldn't get one with a MRP. Chrome lined for that critter. I also would stay with the standard length, but I freely admit I would never throw a bipod on a carbine. You might want to wait and figure out what your long term plans are, and then go from there. The MRP is a substantial chunk of change for most of us, and well worth making sure you get the version that you really want. |
| 10-4, the bipod thing comes in for the .499 caliber. Close to a .50 cal out of a m4/m16 platform.....Oh Son. I don't know what the recoil would be but sounds interesting to me. Just read article about the .499 being tested with the coast guard. "Future" simply means having a platform that can be changed to diff calibers etc.. and still use one gun/platform. I guess I could buy uppers but by the time I purchase them and set up the way I want them, price seems to be about the same. Seems the MRP is the answer(if i can cough up enough greenbacks to support project) . Another feature I really like is the "lack of parts" on the MRP upper. To clean that baby, drop lower, take off barrel-now have just few parts-blast with cleaning solution- put back together and presto..... |

I would base your barrel selection on the type of shooting that you plan to do. If this is your first and/or only AR, you would probably be best off with a chrome lined barrel. If this is the case, I'm sure you will be tempted to head out to the range, blast away, and have fun with the rifle. A chrome lined barrel will handle rapid firing better and probably last you longer. Plus, there is less maintenance and care required with a chrome lined barrel (i.e. break-in, cleaning, etc.). I come from a precision rifle background and if you're anything like me, accruacy is the top priority. In this case, a SS barrel would be better. With my precision rigs, I would be lucky to fire 40rds in a day. And that's with cleaning the rifle twice. Plus, there's load development to tweak with. That's not to say you couldn't bump fire a mag or two, but I wouldn't do it unless I absolutly had to. Besides, I have a couple of beater AR's that I can do that with. That being said, UPS just arrived in the middle of writing this with my new rifle length MRP with a 16"SS barrel and I must admit that I'm very very impressed! Red |

If you do a search, you will find tons of info. Here's a start: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=12&t=206104 |

Lets just call it an early Birthday present... to myself. Yes, to my surprise, it did arrive with three tangodown rail covers with the LMT logo on them. They are the standard length Tangodown rail covers, so no they do not completely cover the entire rail. They are exactly half the length of the left and right rails. So, you could put two end to end on the sides to cover the rail. The bottom rail is one slot shorter than the sides, so you could not run two rail covers. |

Thanks for all yalls inputs, man what a sweet rifle. I am on several waiting list for a colt but now am leaning to spend some real green, 86 the colt idea and head straight to the top. I want a .499, I wonder what that puppy would do to a watermelon at 100 yards? Also having option of going 68, drop in new barrel, bolt group, new mag- walla. Yes this is my first AR-yal can probably tell-oh well- I think with this platform, I can build upon the same platform for years to come. Thats whats selling me. |

jlm- you recon the shot show is going to have some big news? I've seen some post from the hip slapper/slayer-whatever, saying big news to come? First off, I agreed with other members- dont bring out news when there is no news? Anyway, wait and see huh? Where can I get an MRP for cheap(haha). Daddy |
