I heard something the other day about a tactical vortex, a vortex with the ends closed to prevent the "tuning fork" noise and to keep it from hanging up on stuff, anyone have a photo of this? Also I would love to see some photos of 14.5 inch barrels with a vortex (and tactical vortex if possible) and both versions of the phantom. Thanks guys.

I have to ask about the vortex, is the ringing loud enough to make it tactically unfit? I have one on my USP Tactical and the thing rings horribly, even friends have asked what the ringing was.

Both versions?  There are 4.

4 holes with sharp tines:

Bushmaster (exclusively) also sells a version of this with the smooth muzzle end and 5 ports.

5 Holes with closed bottom & smooth muzzle (5C1):

Well I dont have a "Tactical Vortex". I do have a G-6.  The only time I hear the ringing is after I charge the charging handle.  When firing I can't hear the ringing.  The blast is too loud.  As far as the FH tines hanging up theory, I just dont see it being a problem

I also have on on my USP Tactical, but I've never heard it ring.  None of my shooting buddies have commented either.  What brand is yours?

ccf, I thought bullets might be hitting it slightly, but it was tightened down all the way.

I use the Tactical Vortex and haven't noticed ANY ringing. (other than my ears)

Just re-read your post. Ther has never been a Smith Vortex with closed end that I know of.

The Vortex patent is on their website and one feature is open prongs.  I have this device on two M16-type rifles and on one M14.

My phantom rings like the vortex when I flick it.  And I would only hear the ringing on the vortex when I had in my electronic ears.  Can speak for the phantom just yet.  Maybe this w/e.
