I'm trying to see if my barrel has chrome lining. I have a bore light and for the life of me I can't tell if it is chromed or not. Anyone have a pic of the chrome or a suggetion on how I can tell? I'm looking at a non-chrome lined one and one that is supposed to be lined and it's hard to tell a differance. Barrel is just too thin to see clearly.

Who built the upper?  If it is a true Bushmaster upper it is chrome lined, same with Colt.  All the others you can pretty well doubt it, but there is a test.  Take of the hand guards and look for a stamping on the barrel "CMP" and if you have that mark you have a chrome lined barrel.  If all you have is "MP" then all you have is a magnetic particle tested barrel with no chrome.  If you have niether then you probably do not have a milspec barrel at all and more likely than not you have no chrome.  Good luck.

yeah I was lookin for the bbl stamp in the wrong place. It is under the handgaurds, although I didnt need to take em off. Just looked into the holes with a borelight. It is a CMMG upper anf it says CMMG MPC 5.56 NATO 1-7. So I guess that answers my question. Thanks!

Not trying to be smart.  What if you have a Bushmaster upper and it is marked "MP 1/9 5.56".  Is it chrome lined or not?

I think mine is because, I can see a fine ring of hard chrome (like a light frosting of ice) around the muzzle.

His barrel is marked correctly, but that is odd that your BM barrel is not marked with the "C".  The only way to get a BM without chrome is to get the SS model or a DCM gun from them.

I wonder if they are getting the barrels chromed after they are built  and shipped to them?

My Bushmaster Superlight is marked B MP. So, is it chrome-lined, or not? It was advertised as being chrome-lined.

The only Bushmaster barrels that are not chrome lined are the SS, varminter, and DCM models. All others are lined. Bushmaster barrels are marked BMP. B for Bushmaster, M for magnetic partical tested and P for proof load tested. CMP is what Colt marks their barrles with. Some older Colts acually have CHROME BORE stamped on the barrel.
