Colt, BM, LMT, and CMMG make 4150-steel, chrome-lined barrels. Armalite makes 4140, chrome-lined barrels. RRA, DPMS, and Oly now all offer chrome-lining as an option, at least on some models. All use 4140 steel. Eagle Arms and the smaller parts-house "manufacturers" (Model 1, M1A, J&T, etc.) don't offer chrome lining at all. -Troy |
To my knowledge OAI does not chrome line anything. They will be offering their proprietary hardening technique, called Maxhard, soon. Some of the smaller kit companies are offering chrome lining now. |
Last I knew that was true. Only the MT6400C has a chrome lined bore. The other MT rifles only have chrome lined chambers. |
That's fucking retarded, why would Colt do that?

...when in reality, it was for Colt, who "wanted to save money." That's why they changed to plastic buffers, plastic trapdoors, and the other cost-savings measures on their civilian guns. If they'd wanted to make *more accurate* guns, they'd have used better quality barrels, but they didn't. As we know, chrome-lining (using modern processes, which are vastly improved since the late 50s/early 60s) doesn't reduce accuracy enough to be statistically relevant. -Troy |
just asking, but, isn't eagle arms and armalite the same company? didn't eagle buy the armalite name years ago? |
Yes, Eagle bought the name Armalite. Eagle has become the "budget" line from the company that now calls itself Armalite. The difference between the two is supposed to be that Armalite rifles have receivers that are matched for better fit and finish match and have chrome lined barrels. Eagle marked rifles should be the same otherwise. |
