The M4 receiver has an extended cut. I have a couple of Colt sporter lightweight. They both have the
extended cut in them. Is this the same as the M4 cut? If so why did Colt do this on the lightweights and
not the others? Thank You.

They are same as M4.  Years ago, 1996 or 1997, R Guns was selling complete preban Colt 16" lightweight A2 uppers, these came with the cuts for the feed ramp too.  The cuts are actually on the barrel extension.  The A2 upper had a "4" stamped above the gas tube, and the barrel extension had a "4" stamped near the ejection port.  That was the first time I ever saw these.   Shortly afterwards M4 barrels became the in thing.

Why they don't do this on other rifles I have no idea.
