Okay, the question I am asking is JUST about the barrel, not the Barreled upper or things like RIS added on.

Which weighs less? A Lightweight (Pencil) 16" Barrel? (If vendors vary, which vendor is the lightest), or an M4 Profile Barrel?

Now, which weighs less, an M4 Profile Barrel, or a 20" pencil barrel?

20" A1 is 2.2 lbs
20" A2 is 2.5 lbs
16" M4 is 2.2 lbs
14.5" M4 is 2.0 lbs (add .2 for muzzle device)
16" LW is 1.9lbs

Any questions?

Information comes from www.MD-AR15.com & Bushmaster.  Barrel weights are for Bushmaster's except the A1 barrel which was a Colt.

Thank you very much.

Just so I understand, A1 barrel = 20" pencil?

One other question just occured to me.

Does the 11.5"+5.5" XM177 CAR Barrel come in a pencil style? Or were they always that thick under the handguards?

And is the weight on one of those less than that of, say a 16" Pencil barrel?

11.5+5 = 2.6lbs when its a HBAR.  In 'pencil' form that works out to 2.1 lbs.

The 16" Lightweight would be 0.2 lbs lighter and have far better MV, and thus terminal ballistics.
