How hard is it to change the front sight assy, I want to put one on that has the "evil" bayonet lug.

Most new front sight housings come without being drilled for the taper pins that secure it to the barrel. Getting off the existing housing is no problem. You will need to get the new one taper drilled so that the holes line up with the corresponding slots already on your barrel.

As stated here before, removing taper pins can be hard, but it is doable by your average home gunsmith.

You probably could find a used FSB on the EE or ebay, but the chances or the taper pin holes lining up with the present slots/holes in your barrel are slim to none.

You can drill & tap a used one and mount it with setscrews, but this may not be as strong as the original taper pin setup, so if you are going into combat or plan for TSHTF scenario, this may not be ideal.  Companies like Fulton Armory use the setscrew method to mount FSBs on their match target rifles so the FSB and post can be exactly centered to the middle of the rear sight windage adjust.  For your average armchair commando who wants the bayonet lug look, this is a quick, easy and adequate solution.
