Do you have to remove the barrel to install the AR-15 PREDATOR RAIL SYSTEM ?

I am looking for a rail system (mid-lenght) that I do not have to remove the barrel to install on my .50 Beowulf.

Thanks

Yes you do.  The rail system has its own barrel nut that the rail mounts to.

I'm looking too and I think that the only one that does not require the barrel removal is the SIR 58M...I have an inquiry with someone on the YHM...I'll post when I know for sure if its even compatiable....

YHM free float tubes have their own barrel nut as well.  All SIRS, the M models and C models can be mounted without taking off the barrel nut.  The M models require you to cut off the delta ring and spring for install, the C models mount around or over the installed delta assembly.

RAS II doesn't require barrel removal.

Correct, the YHM does require removal of the stock barrel nut, along with the muzzle device if present and front sight base.  However, the GG&G forearm does not require you to remove the FSB, just remove the delta ring assembly like you would with a SIR.  If you are looking for a tube type handguard with a little easier install that might be the way to go.

The Mid Length Troy Industries MRFs should be out in 2 or 3 weeks.  These allow you to install a free float fore end without removing the barrel nut.

The pic below is of a carbine length MRF and a Mid Length that MilitaryMoron had in for a quick evaluation:

Last I heard the Carbine length is due out in about two to three weeks and the mid length will be a bit further back.

The carbine length ships next week.

Midlength follows by 12-16 days.

Rifle 3 weeks later.

Would an Armalite 1913 handguard work?

Do you have any photos that show the wedge block or the end view?

How much?

The ARMS SIR #58 is built for Midlength rifles, but it's made in "M" configuration only which means it's designed to work without the factory Delta Ring assembly.
The Delta Ring can be removed from the upper by cutting it in half if you really don't want to remove the barrel, I've seen that quite a few people have installed the "M" series SIRs this way.

The Predator system uses a proprietary barrel nut which not only requires the removal of the barrel, but the removal and reinstallation of the front sight assembly as well.

OK, I'll answer my own question.  After speaking with Bill Alexander at Alexander Arms, I ordered a set of the Armalite Alostyr midlength handguards, and they fit my Beowulf great, nice and tight.
For those that care, the height of the handguard rail is the same as that of the receiver flat top.  I'm a few hundred rounds away from giving 100% approval, but for now I'm happy with a  $169.76 (including shipping) forend that was a straight swap for the standard handguards.

Or, you can get the SIR system in the "C" version which does not require removal of the FST and barrel nut.

My understanding is that the midlength SIR is not currently available in a "C" version.

You are correct!  I just installed a YHM Mid Lenght LW rail on the beowulf and it looks great...I'll take some photos soon.  Yes you have to remove the barrel nut, but its not as hard is it seems, since it was my first time doing this.
