A friend of mine recently bought a Colt M4 barrel with no sight.   He has purchased a couple of front sights only to find that the taper holes do not line up.  Is there a difference between companies that make the front sights?   What can be done to fix the problem?

Thanks,

There is no spec on where the holes are drilled.  The barrel and front sight block are placed in a fixture, and then the holes are drilled in one operation, so the exact location isn't critical.  Unless he has the necessary machining tools and gauges to duplicate the position of those holes exactly, he's better off replacing it with a clamp-on type FSB.  Armalite sells these.  The only (potential) downside is that they don't have bayo lugs.  But they're easy to install.
