Hey all, I'd like to know how well the first samco 4 rail handguards work. I'd like to mount a flashlight (most likely a Surefire 6P), vertical grip (probably the first samco) and an Eotech on the top. This is on a preban PWA Commando with an A2 carry handle. Free floating is not needed because I'm not going much past 50 yards (maybe out to 100 at the range) with this rifle. This seems like the easiest setup for a CQB only rifle. Thanks, Dave |

if you want to mount optics, look for a different system. The fobus plastic stuff DOES MOVE. I have heard very good reports about the yankee hill 2 peice 4 rail handguard. Non-free float, installed without taking anything apart, but they are supposedly rock solid. Not as solid as a knights, but the best its going to get without free-floating, and without spending 300+ on a KAC. I believe its bravo company that is selling those things for around 110 dollars. Much better than the fobus imho. Scott |
| They work as advertised. I continue to receiver orders for them to ship to APOs in Iraq and Afghanistan. Most of those orders come from referrals of other soldiers. Toss a 4MOA red dot style optic on top; odds are it wont move enough to matter for CQB. Lights and grips - perfect. Optics, not so good but if its all you have it will work... |

Well, when compared to the Alum stuff and at about the same price, the M44 is out of the equation entirely. You only add about 4oz to the total weight of the gun so IMHO that is a non-issue. I've got some much bling bling hanging off my gun I was to the point of what the heck. Honestly, and this is no BS, I put the two piece on a par with the RAS M4 for stability and durability. In fact I didn't get burned by a hot HG with the YHM. HTH. |

I had the FOBUS M33 handguards, and unless they changed the rails, they aren't even close to "spec". That's not a huge deal for the FOBUS grip and light mount, but I couldn't get ANY optic to seat fully on the rail. One side or the other would be sticking up. Even regular scope rings didn't fit right. Get the aluminum one from Bright Flashlights for nearly the same price and be MUCH happier, we promise

Thanks fellas, I've got an email into Brightflashlights about the YHM rails, seems like he doesn't know when they'll be in stock but I can wait. Hell my newest AR hasn't even gotten to me yet (pant pant) but I need some instant gratification..... I guess I'll have to go fondle my new .45 hehehe. Peace |

salaciouscrumb, I have the fobus mounted on my Oly 9mm upper. It is not bad and it works alright. For what you want to do it would work but it comes close to the price of the YHM 2 piece which I also have. The YHM 2 piece is good to go and works well with the KAC panels and will be sturdy enough for optics and such. Bad part is that you have to pay for covers as well. On a side note the First SAMCO comes with covers albeit they are cheesy but work. Would I buy another First Samco, yes but I would change the covers. Also keep in mind they do not heat up as bad as the KAC or YHM if you plan on rapid firing often. Max |

I first bought the Fobus M33 - It wasn't very good IMO and the rails are not spec. I sent that back and got the YHM 2 piece job. It's rails are also not in spec it's pretty "fat" to boot (not really an issue if you are going to use a VFG). The next step up would be the surefire M73 but it's top rail is not even with the upper's rail and that bothers me. GG&G has a 2-piece rail FF rail system for the low $200s but I don't know much about it? For my self, I decided to quit playing the upgrade game and just get either the KAC or DD FF versions which I know will do everything I want. Either way, it's really not a good idea to mount any optic to any non-FF rail system. If, Anybody is interested I still have that YHM handguard in 100% condition that I want to sell. e-mail me for details |
