I looked at a used, 16", mid-length, chrome lined barrel from Armalite. The front sight tower was mounted with socket head bolts rather than pins. Is this the way the factory does it? Are there any indexing slots in the barrel to help align the tower to the bore? Looks like it could be a PITA to realign if ever removed. |

Yes, that's how Armalite at least used to do it. I tried ordering a pre-ban mid-length barrel from them a while back. First time, they sent a barrel with dinged threads. It had the FSB you mentioned. Second try they sent a post-ban with weaver block. Third time they got it right, but it had a pinned front sight. |

Quoted: From my understanding the preban "gov't" profile midlengths were pinned. New midlengths are simply screwed in place - this is cheaper and it is easier to remove and add a FF tube etc. -Kevin I've been trying to find a preban w/ a flat top but have been unssuccessful. How tough are the screwed in place FSB vs pinned? I plan on Free Floating so easier is better if it won't rotate. Also, is the barrel relieved for the pins or screws? Sean |
