Would like to hear of any experience with .243 WSSM in Olympic. ie, feeding problems, will a standard mag work? How does the bolt cycle with the heavier load? any thing. outguy |

Quoted: Expect to shoot fewer than 1500 (probably closer to 1000) rounds before the throat has eroded to dangerous levels. The .223 WSSM has been getting fewer than 500 rounds. |

I haven't personally seen a burned out barrel, no. I knew from the moment the specs on the WSSM series were made public that there would be a problem. I questioned a few people about it recently in a thread, and several people had first-hand friends whose barrels had been shot out. One in as few as 300 or so rounds. I have also heard that a few manufacturers are discontinuing production of .223 WSSM rifles for the same reason. I doubt I could find the link for you, tho. I think the thread was related to something else and went off on a tangent. If yer just gonna shoot it to get used to the recoil and sight it in then save it for deer season, there shouldn't be much trouble. Just don't expect to hit the range and blow through 100 rounds very many times. You'll be disappointed. |

Quoted: They said their test rifle had over 4,000 rounds through it with no loss of accuracy and no more than normal wear in the throat and barrel. If anyone can afford to put 4,000 rounds of this ammo through one of these then they can surely afford a new barrel once in awhile. Either: They are lying. They are using underloaded ammo. All the people with throat erosion problems are lying. Take your pick. Caveat Emptor. |
