I recently stumbled upon a Socom milled lower receiver and I was wondering if you experianced AR folks could tell me anything about you experiance with them.  Please go to their website and tell me what you think.

I am in California and when I called them they told me that they can make a CA legal 10-shot lower receiver for my target rifle.  This piece is more attractive to me than DPMS's single shot or that Kilroy one with the american flag on the side.

What do you guys think?  Please tell me.

I had one on a varmint AR, in silver or "white" finish.  They are quite robust, I would get another one.  I sent mine (stripped) to J.P. Enterprises, and they installed their trigger kit and push-pins, as well as the rest of lower parts.

Interestingly I wrote to them a while back and they said a .308 version was in the works that could utilize FAL mags.  Still haven't seen them yet....

The billet milled lowers are reported to be heavy and some told me more "squareish" in appearence.  Typically suited more for target type guns than say M4 config.  All agreed they were very sturdy!  No firsthand experience in the matter but I asked the same question a while back and above is the summary of what I got in response.

Pretty expensive though.
Machining is time consuming, I suppose, and time is money.

Have they been approved by the CA DOJ?  You might find it hard to get an FFL to do the tranfer for you [peep]

Do they need special approval?  They will NOT accept a detachable magazine that will  hold more than 10 rounds.  I don't think that they need to be on an "approved" list like pistols here.

I will check with the manufacturer on Monday.  E-mail me if you have more on this.

Thanks,

Derek

P.S. Keep those opinions coming!

Robinson Arms and DSA, among many others, have had to obtain approval from DOJ to sell CA legal rifles here.  From what I heard (not personal experience, as I won't buy them) many FFLs won't do transfer on the FAB10 receivers even though they're totally legal and approved by the CA DOJ.  You might wanna ask this in the Home Town section [:)]
