| Will ARMS release the SIR #58 Mod C version? Thanks. |

The #58 and the mid length gas systems are not as popular as the CAR length gas systems and their respective rail systems. Do not misunderstand me, I'm not nocking the mid settup. In fact its my settup of choice barring an NFA weapon. If limited to a 16" OA length settup, either the 16" w/ std. CAR length gas ssytem, or the 14.5" w/ lengthenend FS, I'd just as soon use the 16" w/ the benefits of a mid length gas system. But, they are not yet as popular as I hope they will soon become. They are out there, but look at the lack of manufacturers. Only Armalite and RRA offer the settup. And only DD and ARMs offer true midlength rail systems, w/ KAC's offering requiring a low gas block as their Mid-Rail extends beyond the gas block. However, w/ the advent and release for commercial sales, of the 6.8MM uppers, most in the mid length gas system style, the popularity of midlength rail systems is becoming more popular possibly more prevalent. Unfortunately because the 6.8MM's are just now being built up, many are not being built up w/ the delta ring assy. to limit the user to rails that allow their use. And, w/ the supply of true mid length car style handguards being limited it's almost a foregone conclusion that most users of the 6.8s are going w/ rails of some type, so most uppers aren't being built in "handguard/delta ring config.". The mid's are limited to the 16" barrels, most desirable in the mid range role, all but excluding the LE role for the AR and the rail concept.. Most LEAs are using the CQB length 14.5" and 11.5"/10.5". These all use the std. CAR length rails, and the LE community right now is a huge rail consumer and potential market for the rail systems. Whether or not the aftermarket, like ARMS will find a large enough customer base needing the 58 in C version is debatable but doesn't seem to be benefitting from the advent of the best platform for mid length gas systems, the 6.8MM. The #58MOD might have a shot. But the #58, doesn't look good. /S2 |

If the front cap must be removed on the 58Mod, that rerquires the front sight housing to be removed first by nocking out the two dowel pins. If you are going to put a fold down front sight on anyways, thats the time to do it too. The 58Mod still wouldn't need the barrel to be pulled, just cut the delta ring with a dremel as usual with any of the M's. Good shootin, Jack |

I just bought a #58 MOD S.I.R. system for my 16" carbine with standard gas system. It looks like the handguard cap is part of the front site assembly or is solidly placed near it. Are these always two pieces? Anything to look out for when I cut this piece off with my trusty dremel? Thanks. |
