Does anyone know if there was a 45 cal conversion made for the M16? If so, what are your experiences with it (i.e., does it work)? Who made it? etc., etc.

Have'nt seen a 45 upper that I can remember, but I do remember LaFrance Specialties had their M16K carbine in .45 ACP. It had a totally reworked upper, A1 sights a free float tube and integral muzzle break. Edited to add:It took modified Thompson stick mags.

Oly makes (made?) a .45ACP upper. Not sure what magazines it uses, maybe M3 Submachine Gun (grease gun) mags. The best thing that can be said for a .45ACP upper is it's better than a 9mm. Although I'd probably try one just for grins. -- Chuck

Cav arms' new lower is capable of taking GG mags. I'm going to do a 45 upper ASAP.

I shoot a lot of .45 ACP in pistols and figured a .45 AR would be neat. Bought the OLY PCR45. Have been very happy with it. Very accurate, and a hoot to shoot. Yes, it only works with modified UZI mags, and yes, they are brutally expensive (and IMO ugly to boot), but, other than being a little difficult to load, they work just fine. I've also had some trouble getting the full 16 rounds in the 16 round UZI mags.
