Course that's only a theory... Thats exactly a question I had, and was hoping it would get answered in the process. |

It seems like even if it's possible it wouldn't be cost effective. Unless it's a one-of-a-kind barrel or something real special (in which case it should maybe be left alone), it seems like the cost and time involved with someone chroming a single barrel would be pretty high and they might be better off swapping it for a barrel that's already chrome lined. There are chrome lined barrels available from name brand manufacturers as cheap as $175 (Bushmaster for one). When you figure you could get at least $100 for your used barrel (maybe much more depending on make/configuration/condition), it's only a little more to get a brand new chrome lined barrel- without having to research who's going to do a good job for the right price, have reasonable turnaround time, give a warranty on their work, and if they'll even change their fixturing to do a single barrel for someone. I was with you the whole time except for the Glock 17, I like .45's and 1911 is king of .45's Mine would be: same but with 16.5in 4150 1/8 .73in under handguards, chrome lined rifle length gas tube, KAC URX, KAC Lowprofile gas block, KAC RAS Mount flip up, KAC 600M rear, collapsible stock, Safe/Semi/Auto 2-stage match trigger. (Open bolt sectability would be cool too. [if you want it to cool but be ready to fire, pop the bolt open and select to open bolt.] Whie in in fantasy land, belt feed option rather than mags would be great (still retaining open/closed bolt operation). [b]I also think the KAC project on modular suppressed weapons was a little premature, now they could probably make a successful integral suppressor to fit under the URX (100% Inconel of course) with 32-34DB suppression.[/b] Heavy duty gas tube would be neccassary and the integral suppressor might change the rifle length tube but it would be worth it. |

Glocks are a lot nicer than they look, they lack a safetey but Joe Cominolli can take care of that, they are very accurate out of the box something that SIG's may or may not be, My SIG 220 was terrible (5 inch groups with a single first round flyer 7 inches low and left from every mag) until I dropped in a Barsto barrel and groups shrunk to about 1.5inches at 25yds No flyer. I like 1911's but Glock is a good gun in my book. |

I think the Glock is a decent sidearm, but I think you may be judging SIGs by one lemon (although I could be wrong). However I have had a couple of SIGs and they both performed extremely well. They feel a lot better than Glocks to me, but that is subjective. The only reason I no longer own any SIGs is because they aren't 1911s. I only wanted to worry about one type of sidearm with one set of controls. Although if a SIG P225 came along at the right time, i would pick it up in a heartbeat. The problem with sidearms is the lack of modularity and the ability to be modular. Everyone is going to feel differently about the grip, triggr pull, controls, etc. It's not like an AR where the pistol grip, stock, foregrip has dozens of options open to the operator. |
