Do US military M4A1s have the heavy under handguards M4 profile barrel or the standard M4 (thin under handguards) barrel.

As of (IIRC) FY 2001, they are all 4 ounces heavier under the handguards.

Troy would know better, but the way I heard it, the mil-spec was changed permanently.

Now why isn't anyone producing the M4A1 barrel for civilian sales?

WHAT IS GOING ON?  (does anyone else out there want one?) I know I do.

Several (<10) thousand Heavy barrels have been made and issued by Colt.  I've only seen a few in circulation for sale though.

The 'normal' contour M4 barrel is still in production (at a rate of 10K+/year)

Can a regular M203 on an M4 be removed and attached to a M4A1 HB without any modification?

DPMS, and everyone else (I wanted to say BM but I think BM technically made the first of these or something like that.) copied the original M4 profile, so why not copy this one?

My RRA M4 upper from pete in NH was heavy under the handguards but it was 1/9 twist not 1/7.

I would do just that if I knew that a standard M4 M203 grenade launcher would mount to this barrel and what exacty the specs for the contour are, without the specs for the contour it is pretty hard to duplicate.

The m203 will still fit. You should call Bushmaster or RRA to get the specs of the barrel, or maybe KKF has them.
