| Has anyone used a Levang Comp. on their AR? If so, what are the pros and cons? Noise , flash, etc... |
| I put one on the wife's superlight carbine, & she likes it well enough. I haven't noticed any difference in flash signature between it & a few of the other brakes I have, but it definitely works well at throwing the blast ahead of (instead of beside) the shooter. Recommended. |
| i have played with one and it does help alot with muzzle blast, but on one of my rifles i noticed a clear decrease in accuracy. A load that had often went 3 shots in an inch went to 3 shots in 3 inches. I figure it was a "barrel harmonics" thing and that another load may have shot better but I went with a Wilson. It is a pretty heavy chunk of steel hanging on the end of the barrel when compred to other brakes. |

Has anyone noticed any problems with carbon build up on the Levang Comp. I am curious from a maintenance stand point, because it looks like it might be a challenge to clean all the little ports if the comp is permanetly attached. Sully Chief Instructor www.thedefensiveedge.com |

I've had a couple Levangs on a couple differnt rifles...The Levang Leaving Linear Comp doesn't reduce muzzle flip on the 16" barrels as well as some other muzzle brakes, but the Levang pushes all the noise, gases, and muzzle blast away from the shooter...I wouldn't recommend doing this often, but I had forgot to put my hearing protection a time or two and the noise produced by the Levang wasn't bad at all...it didn't leave my ears ringing and in pain like many other muzzle brakes did. Muzzle flash is ammo dependant, sometimes I would ge a flash about the size of a softball, other times just a small, slight orange glow...The brake does nothing to reduce flash, the flash is slightly better than that produced by a bare barrel. Sully, As far as cleaning issues, a pipe cleaner work great as does a q-tip (just have to remove some of the cotton so it will fit in the hole)....I never experienced much carbon build, but to clean the brake I just used a pipe cleaner or q-tip and it worked well. |

I have one that is milled to look like an A2 FH. Here is a picture. \ I have not done any "serious" accuracy work with this, but I have shot approx. 1-1.5" groups when zeroing my TA-31F. Would I do it again? Yes. The noise is much less noticable with the lavang. As far as flash, a few of us shot a variety of ammo, olympic, mil, S.A mil, and civilian ammo. I stood off to the side and watched. IIRC the olympic had the worst of the bunch. and then I had a "tounge" of flame roughly 4" long, then a void, then a golfball size flash. Frankly I was impressed since this is just a comp. I have not had the opportunity to go FA with this to see how it works, though I doubt it was intended for FA. HTH, and YMMV. |
| Yes he did. I like the mill job, but the park finish is sub-par. He had it for a long time and I was low on the priority list. I asked for both bbls to be completed on the time promised (one was a customer's, and my loss of face). As a result the bottom pin doesn't look real good, and the lavang has a rusty tint to it as opposed to the bbl which is park black. It functions well and at some point I'll get it redone with maybe moly coat or something. I'm sure he does outstanding work, but I didn't want to send it back for some more down time. He won't do this work now since he has his own design. |
