[ARCHIVED THREAD] - free float hand guards

I received a car15 upper with free floated hand guards and was wondering if you just screw off the hand guards with a strap wrench?Do you then remove the barrel as you do on regular ar ?

It all depends on the free float handguard you have.

Most handguard are mate with a barrel nut build in them. like the KAC RAS, you have to remove the gas block, the screw off the handguard section and then take a barrel wrench and remove the KAC barrel nut.
