| I just got a DPMS multi-tool and thought I was going to be quite pleased with it until I noticed that it lacks the 1/2" drive in which to stick the torque wrench/breaker bar. Why would they leave out something like that? Am I missing something? The illustration on their site has it, after all. |

MY ORIGINAL ONE, FROM BROWNELL'S, HAD THE 1/2" DRIVE SOCKET HOLE. BUT ONE OF THE PINS BROKE OFF. SO I JUST ORDERED TWO MORE. THE NEW ONES HAVE NO 1/2" DRIVE SOCKET HOLE. SO, I ORDERED A COMBINATION TOOL OUT OF THE BROWNELL'S CATALOG MADE BY SMITH'S ENTERPRISES, WITH THE REQUISITE 1/2" DRIVE ORIFICE. EDITED TO ADD: DPMS HAS BEEN CONTACTED REGARDING THIS SHORTCOMING. WILL LET YOU KNOW THEIR RESPONSE. WES GRANT MSTN.BIZ |
| I just shlepped mine back to Cheaper Than Dirt for a refund. Perhaps I should have asked them to look through what they had in stock for one with the hole so I could exchange the one I had but I doubt their others would have been any different. They should ship them all back to DPMS with a message, "Put some holes in these stupid things, gawdammit! They're nothing but big funny-looking screwdrivers otherwise!" |

HERE IS THE EMAIL REPLY I JUST RECEIVED FROM DPMS: Hello, Thank you for contacting us. The new Multi-Tool was designed without the torque mounts to beef up the remainder tool and make a much more solid and dependable package. The tool you are looking for is the Combination Wrench that is designed with a torque wrench bar in mind. It removes and replaces the barrel nut, extension tube and flash suppressor on the AR15. Feel free to give me a call if you have any other questions (800) 578-3767. Good Shooting Paul DPMS Panther Arms I CALLED AND SPOKE WITH "DAVE". THE DPMS MULTI-TOOL HAS NOT BEEN MADE WITH THE 1/2" DRIVE FITTING FOR OVER A YEAR, HE REPORTS. THEY DO MAKE A SEPARATE TOOL, APPARENTLY LIKE THE MILITARY VERSION, THAT DOES ACCEPT A 1/2" DRIVE. HE REFUSED DO MAKE ANY EXCHANGE FOR THE MULT-TOOLS I BOUGHT FROM HIS DISTRIBUTOR, STATING THAT I WOULD HAVE TO RETURN THEM DIRECTLY TO THE DISTRIBUTOR. I HAVE GOTTEN WHERE I CAN THROW MY ORIGINAL BROKEN ONE AND MAKE IT STICK PRETTY WELL. HEY, ANOTHER FUNCTION FOR THE MULTI-TOOL... YOU JUST CAN'T TORQUE WITH IT. GET A SMITH ENTERPRISES ARMORER'S WRENCH. MY NEW SMITH'S SHOWED UP FROM BROWNELL'S YESTERDAY. BACK IN BUSINESS! WES |
| Sounds like they've made it twice as strong and half as useful. Yes, I'll just have to save up a little more and get the Smith Ent. or something like it. Too bad; I did rather like the idea of having the buttstock screwdriver as part of the package, as well as it costing $10 or so less. |
