I'm thinking of gtting a FOBUS M44. does it matter that the front rail is lower than the rail on top of my ar? is this irrelevant? can I still mount sights o the forward rail?

M44 (or M33) is a good platform to mount a forend vertical grip. However, IMHO it is NOT a good platform for scopes. Any play on the handguard will cause the POI change.

I just installed the latest M44 version on a BM 16" A2. It is much more substantial than the M33 it replaced. The Fobus factory told me that they have changed the material used for a more rigid product. I have an ATN optic hung on it which does co-witness with the iron sights. We'll see if it holds zero.
Fobus does stand behind their products, no questions asked.
